| The genesis of GrassFyre was within the Queens
Bush Bluegrass Club of Owen Sound (www.queensbush.ca). All members of this newly
formed band share a love of this roots-based acoustic style of music. The
members are veterans of the bluegrass scene in Bruce and Grey Counties. Mike
Matejcic (Guitar/vocals) and Bernie Melosh (Guitar/vocals) are both former
members of Northern Grass (Owen Sound), Bernie Range (Mandolin/vocals) a former
member of the Otter Creek Bluegrass Band (Walkerton/Mildmay); Gord Chapman
(Upright Bass / vocals) a former member of Dusty Strings (Owen Sound); and Barry
Steffler (Banjo) is a long-standing banjo player in the area. Mike, Bernie M.,
and Gord all hail from Owen Sound, while Barry is from Wiarton and Bernie R. is
from Big Bay. Strong vocals and solid musicianship are a mark of the band.
GrassFyre plays a variety of traditional and contemporary bluegrass music, and
blends songs from folk, country and occasionally pop/rock into their repertoire.
Sure to get your hands clapping and toes tapping, GrassFyre is “bluegrass with
